Are you learning to draw but feel like you're not improving?

The Pencil Room can help by:

1. Teaching you the essential skills needed for pencil drawing

2. Helping you improve through direct feedback on your work

3. Showing you how to see your subject so that your drawing starts to actually look like what you want it to!

Hi, I'm Emily Armstrong. I'm a professional drawing teacher with a Masters degree in Art & Design. I've developed my drawing courses from years of experience helping adults to overcome common drawing mistakes and challenges.

Are you confused about what you should be drawing? Or how much time you should be practicing for?

Sketch Club is my monthly membership, providing lessons for beginners and improvers. For just US$25 per month you’ll get a direct path for learning to draw including:

  • Access to a variety of over 30 drawing classes and three full beginner drawing courses
  • A practice guide to show you where to start and what to do next
  • Direct feedback from me so you know what to work on
  • A student community where you can support others and get support back

Whether you are starting from scratch with no experience, or you want to push your drawing skills to the next level, I can help you achieve your drawing goals!

Learning on your own is difficult, especially if you've got no idea how to start...

Testimonials

I joined Sketch Club when I was recovering from shoulder surgery. I had never drawn before so had low expectations for myself. Emily, however, didn't. The videos that she has produced are so clear and well done and her instruction so clear that I found myself doing not such a bad job! She is available for individual feedback and advice which I have found invaluable; she clearly gives lots of thought to what she offers. And always she is encouraging!
This past year I've seen myself progress from drawing a straight line to creating a detailed drawing of a cat. That's quite a leap! Amy, Age 69

Testimonials

Emily's approach of building skill upon skill is really effective. She gets you to concentrate on one goal at a time. Gradually you start to see that you are actually using a variety of observation and drawing techniques due to these preliminary steps.
The ability to get feedback on my efforts is another effective learning tool. I have learned there are shadows within shadows!!
The membership has an exciting collection of tutorials and learning experiences. Penny, Age 81

Testimonials

I realized later in life that I have a skill in drawing but no training. After studying both online and in person I have really been craving a methodical approach that builds my skills and self-trust gradually and organically.
What I love about Sketch Club is that the tutorials are bite-sized and easy to follow, there is an opportunity to practice the skill learned while choosing how you want to do it, and the feedback from both Emily and the community helps me refine my skill as well as build inner trust. Nalini, Age 63
